Amazon's Secret Weapon: New AI Chatbot 'Metis' to Revolutionize How You Live and Work
Amazon has long been a player in the artificial intelligence (AI) arena with its Alexa voice assistant, but the company has yet to release a chatbot capable of generating images or text. This may soon change as Amazon is reportedly developing a new AI chatbot named ‘Metis’.
According to Business Insider, Metis will employ retrieval-augmented generation to provide users with up-to-date information and task automation. It will offer conversational answers in both text and image formats, akin to popular chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot. Additionally, Metis will link to sources, suggest follow-up questions, and generate images based on user queries.
The report also indicates that Metis will be powered by Amazon’s proprietary AI model, Olympus, which is said to be more advanced than the Titan model currently available to the public. This advanced model will enable Metis to access and integrate real-time information beyond its original training data.
Metis is designed to function as an AI agent capable of automating complex tasks such as creating travel itineraries, controlling connected devices, and booking flights. With these features, Amazon aims to compete with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is personally involved in the project and has recently reviewed its progress. The development of Metis is being led by Amazon’s AGI team under the leadership of Senior Vice President and Vice President, Rohit Prasad.
